Index Coop has adopted an Owl
Ophelia is a resident of Southeastern Raptor Center at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Index Coop is excited to announce that we have adopted Ophelia, a female Great Horned Owl. Ophelia is a resident of Southeastern Raptor Center at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. What better way to celebrate Index Coop’s second birthday than by supporting ongoing care for our mascot?
Ophelia was raised by a human instead of her fellow owls, meaning she has a low survival chance in the wild. For this reason, she is non-releasable and has been a member of the Southeastern Raptor Center’s Education Team since 2003. She’s a friendly owl to humans, showing no fear when humans approach and even soliciting food from them. As a member of the Education Team, Ophelia is glove-trained. She flies during the center’s presentations and demonstrates the species’s consummate deep hooting call. She has a 4.5 ft. wingspan and weighs 1400 grams. We’ve put proof of adoption on the blockchain. Southeastern Raptor Center provided a physical Certificate of Adoption for Ophelia that we have digitized and minted as an NFT held by the Index Coop treasury. Given Ethereum’s recent transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake via The Merge, this is Index Coop’s first environmentally-friendly NFT.
On October 7, 2022, Index Coop will celebrate 2 years!
